Many people avoid water procedures during a cold, believing that this can worsen the condition or prolong the disease. This idea has taken root since ancient times, when living conditions were completely different - without central heating, hot water and proper care for the sick. But does it make sense in the modern world?

Experts say that bathing during a cold is not only not harmful, but can even bring relief. Hot water helps relax muscles, relieve headaches, relieve nasal congestion, and also has a positive effect on overall well-being. In addition, maintaining hygiene is an important component of the recovery process.

However, it is worth following certain rules. The water temperature should not be too high - warm water is considered optimal, about 37–38 ° C. Staying in the bath or shower should not be too long: 10–15 minutes will be quite enough. It is important to avoid hypothermia after the procedure - you need to dry yourself thoroughly, put on warm clothes and, if possible, go to bed immediately.

It is not recommended to take a bath in cases where the patient has a high temperature (over 38.5 ° C), severe weakness or dizziness. In such situations, it is better to limit yourself to rubbing with warm water so as not to overload the body. You should also avoid sudden changes in temperature and drafts after water procedures.

Particular attention should be paid to the individual characteristics of the body. If you notice that after a shower your condition worsens or you have chills, it may be better to postpone water procedures for a day or two. At the same time, many people, on the contrary, feel significant relief after a warm bath with the addition of essential oils or sea salt.

So, bathing during a cold is not only allowed, but sometimes even useful. The main thing is to be careful, not to abuse the duration of the procedures and carefully monitor the reaction of your body.
